Chicago Bears Hold Browns to 6 Points

The Chicago Bears, returning from an embarrassing defeat last week to the Cincinnati Bengals, had no trouble against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Despite the 30 points for Chicago, not a single Touchdown pass was thrown from Jay Cutler. Cutler threw for 225 yards, completing a little over half of his throws. Robbie Gould was a big part of this game, making three Field Goals and three Extra Point kicks. Hopefully the Bears can come out with this same intensity from now on. However, the offense still needs a lot of work if the Bears are going to compete against some of the better teams.

Vendor Night at Wrigley Field (w/ Pictures)

Every Year, the Chicago Cubs thanks its vendors by hosting Vendor Night at Wrigley Field.  A night where the vendors, who are obvious fans, can bring their family and enjoy the parts of Wrigley Field that can't normally be enjoyed by anyone who isn't a player.  Children and their parents have the chance to go out on the Field and toss the ball around under the lights.  

Vince Vaughn Comes to Blackhawk's First Preseason Game (w/ Video)

Vince Vaughn, a Chicago native who isn't shy to let people know he's from Chicago, attended the first game of the Chicago Blackhawk's Preseason.  He joked around and talked a little about his new movie coming out. 

It's always cool to see actors, musicians, and celebrities from other sports at Blackhawk games.  Vaughn is not the first celebrity to attend a Blackhawks match; some of the former celebrities include Dan Aykroyd, Michael Jordan, and John Hughes, to name a few.

Chicago Cubs Avoid St. Louis Sweep

The game looked like it was over for the Chicago Cubs and they had just been swept by the St. Louis Cardinals.  3-3 in the Bottom of the Ninth and the Cardinals had the bases loaded.  St. Louis hits a grounder to second base; Andres Blanco grabs it and tosses it to Ryan Theriot; Theriot tags the bag and makes a throw to Derrek Lee at first; Lee, who is off the bag, makes a reach for the hitter running to first, but is called unsuccessful.  Game Over.

The second base umpire calls a double play, but not because of Derrek Lee's stretch.  Upon reviewing the play, Matt Holiday, who was making the run from first to second, comes off the baseline, and heads right into Theriot, slightly clipping his leg as he makes the throw to Lee.  Leaving the baseline results in two outs, which is exactly what the Cubs needed to put the game into Extra Innings. 

After a scoreless 10th inning, Jake Fox hit a two-run homer in the top of the 11th to give the Cubs a 6-3 lead on the Cardinals.  Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless bottom of the 11th to help the Cubs avoid being swept by the Cardinals in their final match-up of the season.   

Chicago Blackhawks Take First Preseason Game into OT

Blackhawks- 2                   Capitals- 3

The Chicago Blackhawks started off with an early lead against the Washinton Capitals, but let it slip at the end of the game.  The Capitals managed to tie the game up before the end of Regular Time, sending it into OT.

Alternate Captain, Patrick Sharp, came out early in the first period and knocked in the Blackhawk's first goal of the preseason off a pass from Dustin Byfuglien.  In the first five minutes of the second period, Right Winger, Jack Skille, gave Chicago a 2-0 lead over the Capitals.  Only minutes later, the Capitals closed the gap a little with their first goal of the game.

It was looking like a Chicago victory until the final three minutes when Washington tied the game up, 2-2.  Less than five minutes into Over Time, the Capitals sealed the deal on their victory after putting a loose puck past Cristobal Huet.  Huet had 27 saves.

Ryan Theriot Possible Leadoff Man Next Year?

With Alfonso Soriano being moved out of the Chicago Cub's Leadoff Position for next season, this will leave open a spot at the Top of the Batting Order.  Ryan Theriot is one of the candidates to take this spot. 

This season, he has had 7 home runs, 52 RBIs, and a .289 Batting Average.  Also, Theriot is currently leading the team in stolen bases with 19.  Not to mention, the guy just loves to hit.  Theriot was quoted as saying "I haven't worried about [average] all year. My goals are always score runs -- get on base and score runs. I think if you do that, you're helping your team win and everything else takes care of itself. However that works out -- walks, or reach on an error, or get a hit or something -- just get on first base."

Now, that's a True Team Player!
